Stephen's Euro Garage Ep. 4.5: First crank-over of the silver fox's freshly rebuilt engine!
I am so excited to show you this car running that I just couldn't wait to edit together a video of it! Here she is, the silver fox 1998 BMW 318i running for the very first time after I rebuilt the engine and reinstalled it. The clattering at first is a combination of the timing chain tensioner, hydraulic lifters, and air pump which all settle and eventually once I drove the car around the lifter noise went away completely.
Here's the story about my car:
I purchased this car for 750 dollars in January of this year not knowing how bad the engine was on it. The previous owner thought it was just an alternator... well it was a little more than that. I proceeded to take the engine apart to work on something else and found that the engine had been run low on oil which pretty much destroyed the original engine and junked the cylinder head.
I had to decide whether to save it and buy another engine or just part the car out. I came into quite a few M3 parts for cheap and decided what the hell, let me sharpen up my engine building skills at home since I have never done it at home before, only in a shop environment.
I then rebuilt another used engine I bought in Fresno to stock specifications as practice for future projects that I am planning which include modifications. I also installed M3 wheels, M3 springs and shocks, and replaced the control arms and bushings.
Unfortunately, I only have video of removing and installing this engine (which I will edit and upload in the coming weeks) and I plan to be much more diligent in the future about documenting this type of work since I would like to create a European (BMW, Porsche, Alfa Romeo, and Ducati are my brands) UA-cam page if there is enough interest in the coming year.
Thanks so much for reading and I hope you will join me on this journey!!!

HOW TO: Change the brake pads on your Ducati 999 sportbike
Переглядів 9 тис.10 років тому
This applies to the Aprilia RSV Mille of the same era with side-mount calipers. One quick note I didn't mention in the video is that once you compress the caliper pistons, your brake fluid reservoir will become filled. This would be a good opportunity to bleed your front brakes or just bleed a bit of it out.

Ducati 999 down Palomar Mountain to Borrego Springs

My buddy and I reached the summit of Palomar Mountain where it had snowed last night while we were on our bikes. He was on his Aprilia RSV Mille and I was on my Ducati 999. I wanted to show how much the weather changed and that's why I uploaded the whole thing, I promise to edit it shorter next time! The battery on the GoPro stopped at the end so it didn't quite get to Borrego, but a good demon...

Hello, at about 5:27 you reattached the plastic cover ring. On my 18-55 the only issue is that cover ring. It has come off and when I tried to put it back into place, it doesn't snap tight so the ring keeps coming off. This doesn't affect use of the lens but I think without this cover ring, dirt can get inside the lens. Any tips as to how to reattach this cover ring where it stays put? That would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Steve

Please note. This won't work if your lens has the zoom lock button. These have to be taken apart from the camera mount end and it's a very difficult strip and repair. I know because I've two days getting mine back together and miraculously, it still works.

Brilliant! This video gave me the confidence to tackle my DX 18-70 lens, slightly different cover which is removed by one screw then clipped off firmly ... inside there are three large silver mounting screws that had come loose. Tightened these then just a bit fiddly to get the two covers back on but hey presto! Good as new. Thank you Stephen.
